After playing this morning at Sham GC, I was all warmed up to Grey Eagle GC nearby but they decided to stop play because of the impending cold weather on its way. So I ended up here at Stony Creek GC for $18 BUT it was walking only. Lucky I had my Sun Mountain cart so I headed out with a 5some about six (6) holes in front of me. With six (6) tee selections (6,531yds - 3,655yds) in prime season, they only had Blue 6,371 / 70.5 / 123 and White 5,812 / 68.0 / 115 and the Red 5,093 / 69.7 / 117 open for play on this Par 36/35 Sam Taylor design. First thing I noticed was the softness of the fairways and greens compared to Sahm GC earlier this morning. They have their fairways cut a little longer so maybe that made the difference. They have generous fairways here on most of the holes, with a little more tightness on the Back 9 due to the creek winding around. The Front 9 starts out with a nice 525yd Par 5 that gets you warmed up with no real problems. The #2 Par 3 is a 156yd slightly downhill that has you aiming to the LH side because of the green slope moving to the RH side. The #4 366yd and #5 325yd Par 4's share a creek that runs between them from tee to green so aim accordingly. The #9 208yd Par 3 is all carry over a pond so choose wisely you big dogs. The Back 9 starts out with a 342yd sharp dogleg left Par 4 that has sand in the corner and in front of the green waiting for you. The #11 is a short 137yd Par 3, but that pond in front will snag you if coming up too short. The #12 - #14 are back and forth Par 4's 345-395yds that have water and trees bordering the fairways. The #18 is a tough 520yd Par 5 because your tee shot can only go 200yds and then its through the sharp dogleg right. From their it's a uphill climb 275-300yds to the green about 75' above the corner. Really enjoyed playing here again, even though I wasn't looking forward to walking, but stayed warm. Ended up shooting 38/38 w/34putts as the temps dropped from 42-38 degrees and the winds picked up also.

Meeting in the morning and then off for Customer golf, gotta love this job. Played with my friend Bill K on this fairly open layout with water sneaking in here and there to add a little excitement. Tee's and fairways are in good condition with nice shapely cuts to give the fairways some character to a straight forward layout. Mostly large greens that were a little tricky, and never seem to hit and read correctly. I only had one (1), putt save for par and 17 two (2) putt greens that resulted in shooting 42/42 w/35 putts on this HOT August afternoon. Always have very green conditions here with water scattered throughout the course and not being busy in the PM makes the $32 18/cart in 3.5hrs easy to take. Worth stopping in for the conditions and speed of play in the early PM.
